Paredes de Coura - 16.08.2017
Mais um ano mais um exercício para a criatividade. A premissa é a mesma do ano passado (ver 1,2,3,4,5): um desenho por concerto que assistisse, idealizado no momento enquanto ouvisse. Aqui fica com um cheirinho do festival Paredes de Coura 2017. | Once again I attended Paredes de Coura music festival. And once again I engaged in the creativity exercise I had done last year (see 1,2,3,4,5): to do a drawing live per concert, that's the premise. I leave here the final handiwork for feedback.

Aí os meus amigos musicólicos, com quem fui ao festival, elegeram os 10 melhores concertos desta edição que celebra os 25 anos do festival. E não estão errados. | Go ahead and visit the music blog Where the Music Meets. My musicholic friends, with whom I attended the festival, selected the best 10 best acts of what is the 25th edition of the greenest music festival in Portugal. And I support fully their count-down!
E agora o festival começou a levantar pó. | And now the festival took of.
Fora deste mundo. Não é por acaso que está em segundo nos 10 melhores do festival pelo WtMM. E para mim ainda há dúvidas se o nº1 de facto superou este concerto. | Out of this world. It doesn't come as a surprise that Kate Tempest got the second best medal from WtMM's top 10. Yet, I'm still unsure that n.1 was all that better than her!

A MONTRA / THE WINDOW - Where the Music Meets - Best of March
Conceitos atractivos dão o triplo do prazer a desenvolver se o fazemos com aqueles de quem gostamos. Esta colaboração veio desse lugar bom. | Compelling concepts become much more enjoyable if we build them up with those we love. This collaboration came to fruition from that happy place.
A proposta é ilustrar a playlist mensal que o Where the Music Meets (lembram-se deles? ilustrei para eles nestes posts) faz para A MONTRA / THE WINDOW. | The project is to illustrate a monthly playlist Where the Music Meets (remember them? I illustrated for them in these posts) puts together for A MONTRA / THE WINDOW.
O primeiro blog, WtMM, já conhecemos, mas relembro - é um blog sobre música, indie maioritariamente, que procura dar a conhecer novos artistas e novos projectos de artistas desse universo musical. É pujante em ideias frescas e sonoridades contemporâneas. Uma sugestão para quando não sabem o que ouvir - criem o hábito de ir lá ver o que se passa, vale a pena! | You may be familiar with the former blog, aka WtMM, but I'll remind those of you who aren't what is it all about. It's a music blog, mainly focused on indie music, that values new artists in the genre and discloses new work from established performers. It is prosper in fresh ideas and contemporary sonorities. I'll give you a suggestion for when you don't know what to hear - make it a habit to go there and see what's going on, it's worth it!
A MONTRA / THE WINDOW é uma colaboração nova por estas bandas. Mas fiquei muito contente quando o caminho veio aqui dar, pois é uma abordagem que aprecio - é uma rede de curadoria sustentável! Traduzindo, um blog que expõe produtos e pontos de vista de pessoas cujo foco é sustentabilidade ambiental e social. Condiz comigo. Se quiserem saber mais, vejam aqui a mais eloquente explicação ou divaguem pelo blog. | The second one, A MONTRA / THE WINDOW, is a new collaboration for me. But I was very happy when our paths crossed, as it features content I relish - it is a sustainable curation network. This means they feature products and voice people whose focus is environmental and social sustainability. If you want to know more, see here a more eloquent definition or go through the blog.
Damos o mote com Best of March (Melhor de Março), uma selecção de 10 músicas em destaque das que foram publicadas nesse mês no WtMM. | Best of March is the first of these posts, and it comprises 10 songs selected from all of those published that month in the WtMM blog.
Eu ouvi-as todas e, se início tinha uma pequena (grande) lista de posts que estavam mesmo a pedir uma ilustração, no fim não consegui desligar do Bullets on parade do Noiserv. Criei uma ligação com esta música como com mais nenhuma. Não conseguia tirar o som da máquina fotográfica da cabeça - tem tudo a ver comigo, o som artesanal e a emoção da música. É simultaneamente nostálgica da minha infância e adulta. Ouvir este som infinitamente em repeat transportou-me para um estado de espírito sublime. | I heard all of them and I made a shortlist (a biglist really) of all the songs that were just screaming for an illustration. I couldn't get past Bullets on parade by Noiserv though. The sound of the camera stuck with me - I relate to it on a deeper level - it is both reminiscent of my childhood and evokes adult emotions. Also, I love the crafty element. I heard this song on repeat ad infinitum and it transported me to a sublime state of mind.

O Noiserv tem um album mais recente - 00:00:00 - que se baseia no som do piano e que é frutuoso ouvir. A ideia é ser a banda sonora de um filme que ainda não existe. Saibam mais na entrevista que o WtMM lhe fez. | A more recent album by Noiserv is available, called 00:00:00. It is based on the piano and the concept behind it is a soundtrack of a film that doesn't exist yet. Be sure to know more about it in the interview WtMM has put together.
É certo, as estrelas alinharam-se - foi, e é, uma alegria desfrutar desta ideia, de desenhar música, deles, dos blogs, da frequência mensal - tudo bate certo. O que mais posso querer? Para o mês há mais. | One thing is for sure, the stairs have aligned for this one. It was, and I hope it continues to be, a joyful idea - for me to draw music, for and with these people, in a monthly basis. What else can I wish for? April is next.

Paredes de Coura - 20.08.2016
Vozes singulares. Ápice do festival, para mim. Era o meu dia de eleição, aquele por que ansiei. Mas saiu tudo furado, de um jeito espantoso - os artistas com que estava à esperar de vibrar ficaram aquém das terríveis expectativas, mas os com que eu não contava mexeram comigo. Foi emocionante. | Singular voices. The consummation of the festival, at least for me. This one was my day of election, the one I had yearned for. But it all came out flat in an amazing, unexpected, way... The artists that was expecting to jubilate with fell short of those terrible expectations, and those I wasn't counting on spoke to my heart. It was just thrilling!..
Vivi aqui o meu momento mais alto do festival.
Ao começo e, pelo que me pareceu imenso tempo, odiei. Tanto que a dado momento consultei o relógio para ver se já tinha passado muito tempo, na réstia de esperança que ao menos estivesse quase a terminar. Não! Está o caldo entornado - comecei a congeminar planos para sair dali. Até ter uma ideia de como resolver o desenho e, mais ou menos por essa altura, deu a volta. Virou. E adorei. E adorei. Senti ondas... Desenhei, dancei, senti ondas de emoção. Foi es-pe-cta-cu-lar! Que surpresa!.. Que bom!
During this concert I experienced my high point of the festival.
In the start and for what it seemed a long time, i really hated it. So much so, that at some point I looked at my watch to see if, at least, it was about to end. No such luck! Bugger - and I starting planning a way to get out of there. Until I had this idea of how to solve my drawing and, around that time, it shifted. It turned around. And I really loved it! I loved it! I felt waves... I drew, I danced, I felt waves of emotion. It was spe-cta-cu-lar! What a surprise!..

Dia de absorver o festival na sua plenitude. Lugar sentado, cá em cima na relva, e ver tudo o que o espectáculo tem para oferecer - do som, às luzes, às árvores e ao céu estrelado. (Foi neste dia que fiz o desenho do palco que postei no primeiro dia da série). | I was sitting in the grass in the back, far from the stage, and experienced the shows at their fullest: the sound, the lights, the trees and the stellar sky! (The "stage" drawing I posted in the beginning of the series was done this day).

Paredes de Coura - Intro
Nos próximos dias vamos rever os desenhos que fiz no festival (Vodafone) Paredes de Coura 2016. Foram desenhos maioritariamente feitos ao vivo, ao som dos ditos artistas. Aproveitem! | In the next few days we'll revisit the sketches I made at the music festival (Vodafone) Paredes de Coura 2016. This music festival takes place in the Portuguese countryside near Paredes de Coura. Its mythic backdrop blends perfectly with the friendly atmosphere and the peachy music. Almost all sketches were made live, while enjoying the concerts. Enjoy!
Nunca o merchandising foi tão útil como com estas lanternas! | Never merchandising produts were so useful. I used the lantern to draw in every night show!
Ah, e o design desta edição pôs-me um sorriso na cara - parabéns à equipa de design que o desenvolveu (cujo nome não está creditado em parte nenhuma). | Oh, I was really keen on the design of this year's edition. Congrats to the design team who developed it (whose name is not credited to anywhere).
